“Light is not a thing that can be reproduced, but something that must be represented using something else…. Colours”Paul Cèzanne

It has been a few years since life wanted to lead me to the painting of Javier Aoiz Orduna. And since then, it is his painting that takes me on a stroll through a new time. I met him on the occasion of the XVIII Edition of the BMW Painting Prize in 2003, when I found myself in front of the first of his beautiful, wide and clean “windows”. And although the representation of the human figure is not frequent in his canvases, in that one awaited the image of a young woman with her back turned, seated, contemplative, waiting in the harbour. Perhaps a discovery, not everything has been invented.

Javier’s painting has a poetic charge, sensitivity, and the serene and mysterious heartbeat of what is to come. The cosy atmosphere of an apparently empty interior, the skyline of the big city that allows itself to be bathed by the twilight, the landscape that is the shelter of a joyful summer, or simply the silence that precedes another song. On the table, flowers and fruits are part of a nature that is alive, breathing and nourished by juicy shapes. Fresh mint, soft ice cream, sky blue, orange juice, vanilla and cinnamon, pearl grey. The various chromatic surfaces are celebrated and enjoyed with simplicity, precision and balance. The subtle dance of the brush is accompanied by the grace of colour and the nuance of clarity to evoke the happy event of painting. Almost impressionistic, sometimes abstract with an expressionist touch, but always within the figurative line.

In The Enneads, Plotinus explains how the simple beauty of a colour comes from a form that dominates the darkness of matter and the presence of a luminosity that is reason and idea. This is how Xavier makes each of his works a sincere eulogy of light. Through a very great truth and an indisputable know-how.

Santiago Rusiñol said in his work Fulls de Vida: “There is, without doubt, a light that is not from the Sun or the Moon; it is not from inflammable matter, it is not from reflection, it is not even the light of the stars; it is light that comes from within”. That is, in my opinion, the light of Javier Aoiz Orduna.

Javier Aoiz Orduna –DIECISéIS“.

In this exhibition, we find an atmosphere recreated and lived by a great artist who opens his whole being to us in a moment of splendour. This is what is captured in his marvellous landscapes of the corners of Madrid, (…) [paintings] full of life and light, which play, through the window, to exchange the interior with the exterior and vice versa. Nature enters the room

He is a painter of soft colours who, like Platero with the flowers, barely brushes them with his light, light touches of the brush.
